It is recommended:When a person has unexplained infections, swellings, inflammation, or symptoms of an autoimmune disorder such as SLE.The C3 and C4 panels are the most frequently requested. The C3 and C4 are usually used together as the relative levels are often very important. Total complement panel activity is usually ordered in patients with recurrent infections. To analyse the immune complex-related diseases and conditions, such as glomerulonephritis (a kidney disorder), serum sickness, and vasculitis.
The Complement 3 (C3) and Complement 4 (C4) level test is to measure:The complement system consists of almost 60 proteins, approximately 30 of which are in circulating blood proteins that work together to promote immune and inflammatory responses. The complement tests check the amount or activity of complement proteins in the blood. This complement system is part of the body’s innate immune system. Nine primary complement proteins are designated with C1 through C9.C3 deficiency may cause pneumococcal and Neisseria infections and autoimmune glomerulonephritis. C4 deficiency can cause glomerulonephritis and SLE.
