SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY AWARENESS

II. WHAT IS SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY ?

 SMA is a hereditary condition caused by a mutation in the survival motor neuron 1 (SMN1) gene. Motor neurons eventually degrade without this protein, resulting in muscular weakness and atrophy.
